Mediation

Mediation is a process that helps settling conflicts in which trained persons from within and outside our community are brought in. They help to find solutions for various kind of conflicts, where there are neither winners nor losers.

Since 2005, the Lycée Aline Mayrisch has had a mediation group with trained teachers and members of the SePAS as well as student mediators from the 3rd and 2nd classes who have also been specially trained for that purpose. The activities of the mediation group range from simple disputes to cases of bullying or cyberbullying among individual pupils or within a class or group.

MEDIATION GROUP

The principles of mediation are as follows:

  • Presence of neutral mediators
  • trust
  • voluntary participation
  • respecting the rules of communication
  • willingness on finding appropriate solutions
THE “PARRAINAGE” PROJECT IN GRADE 7: MEDIATION MONDAYS

Within the framework of the ” Parrainage ” (sponsorship), each 7th class is accompanied by up to 4 students from the mediation group. They are present on school day 1 and meet the pupils of their assigned class once a month on Mondays during the lunch break. They help them to settle in their new environment and at the same time they assess the class climate and the well-being of the young students in a relaxed and informal atmosphere. The mediators are supported and supervised by the adults in the mediation group.

CLASS MEDIATION SESSIONS (ALL CLASSES)

If there are any problems or issues between pupils or cases of bullying or cyberbullying within a class or group, the adults of the mediation groups offer selective help and organise one or more mediation rounds (7e – 1ère). In Year 7, the pupils in the mediation group can take part in such mediation rounds.

MEDIATION ON DEMAND

Should there be any kind of conflicts between individual pupils from one or several different classes, the mediation group offers talks on demand. This request can be made by pupils, teachers or parents. Each demand is treated confidentially.

For any questions, please write to: mediation@elaml.lu / sepas@elaml.lu or contact the person in charge of the group, Mrs Caroline Wirion or 691 260 155.
